CareYaya Health Technologies announced today its selection as an award finalist in the highly competitive a2 Pilot Awards hosted by Johns Hopkins University’s Artificial Intelligence and Technology Collaboratory (AITC) for Aging Research. CareYaya has been recognized for its groundbreaking project YayaGuide, an AI-enabled mobile application delivering personalized training for professional and family caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

The awarded grant, pending final approval from the National Institute on Aging, would support CareYaya’s development and real-world evaluation of this first-of-its-kind caregiver education platform. Powered by optimized machine learning algorithms and conversational AI, YayaGuide provides bite-sized, adaptive micro-learning content to expand competencies for this critical workforce.

Neal K. Shah, Founder and CEO of CareYaya, said, “We’re honored to be named an award finalist for this highly selective national aging research grant. CareYaya has already tapped into the immense potential of empowering student caregivers through our rapid growth serving families nationwide. With Johns Hopkins AITC’s cutting-edge expertise in AI implementation, we can scale YayaGuide as a transformative mobile solution cultivating specialized skills for both professional and familial dementia caregivers when they’re needed most.”

The escalating incidence of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, paired with alarming caregiver shortages, spotlight the urgent need to expand training access and efficiency. YayaGuide would provide on-demand education through AI-guided micro-learning, optimizing retention while adapting to individual competencies and pacing. The project complements CareYaya’s rapidly growing social enterprise that connects affordable elder care, overnight care and companion care to families across the country. It can also be channeled as a workforce development tool, enabling a career pathway through upskilling student caregivers across the country.

Dr. Linda Rosenstock, MD, MPH, Dean Emeritus of UCLA Fielding School of Public Health and healthcare executive championing aging solutions stated, “I’m impressed by CareYaya’s dedication to mission and believe this research has potential for significant impact. Neal and his team are poised to lead a commercially viable elder care company assisting older adults live happier, healthier lives.” Upon grant approval, the project plans initial launch focused on student caregivers before expanding functionality to serve family members managing dementia caregiving responsibilities.
